Whether you're a first-timer or an experienced rider, a snowboard school in Mammoth can be a great way to get your skills dialed in. Here's why!
Group lessons put you with people at similar skill levels, so you can ski or snowboard on terrain that's best for your abilities. Beginners will benefit from smaller groups, while intermediate and advanced riders may prefer larger ones.
Beginner Group Lessons
If you’re a beginner, group lessons are a great way to get started on snow. In addition to learning about the basics of skiing and snowboarding, you’ll also have fun with friends and family!
Stratton offers both daily and multi-day group ski and snowboard lessons. You can purchase a lesson package online or at the Stratton ticket window. All lessons must be booked in advance.
We’ll match you up with a group based on your ability and the amount of time you’d like to spend in a lesson. Each group will include at least one instructor, and you’ll be able to practice with the group throughout the lesson.
Many of our beginner groups will be led by an experienced instructor who will make sure you’re properly fitted for your skis and have the skills you need to progress on the mountain. In addition, our instructors will teach you how to safely use the lifts so that you can enjoy a worry-free day on the slopes!

Private Lessons
Private lessons are a great way to improve your skills and get the most out of your ski or snowboard experience. They allow you to work on specific skills that aren't covered in a group lesson or that require more time than a regular group lesson can offer. These lessons are a great option for first-timer learners, those looking to improve their technique or for advanced riders who need more practice.
Your personal instructor will help you build confidence, stay on track and learn faster and more efficiently than if you had to share the slopes with a group. They'll also be able to give you more specific feedback and guidance on your progress, which will make you feel more comfortable in the mountains.
We offer many different types of lessons, from private to group. These options can vary in price, as well as availability, and you should always book your lessons ahead of time to ensure that you have a spot with an instructor.
Regardless of the type of lesson you choose, we recommend that you arrive about 10 minutes before your lesson starts to pick up your equipment and gear. It's important to get your equipment fitted and properly fitted prior to your lesson to ensure that you will have the best possible experience on the slopes.
This is especially true for children, who may need extra protection from cold weather or snow. They may also need a helmet. If you're planning to take a child on a snowboarding lesson, make sure that they have their own helmet or rent one from the rental shop.
The benefits of snow sports are endless, and the more you learn to enjoy them, the more you will love them. You'll have fun, make new friends and create lasting memories while you're learning.

Advanced Group Lessons
Whether you’re new to the sport or have advanced skills but are looking to expand your knowledge and take things to the next level, an advanced group lesson is a great option. Designed to help you master your skills while having fun with friends, an instructor-led group lesson will be sure to have you skiing or riding like a pro.
During a group lesson, you’ll be able to learn from an experienced instructor, who is trained and certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). This will allow you to get a lot out of the experience without feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable.
Regardless of the group lesson you decide on, you’ll be required to follow the Sunday River Resort Skier Responsibility Code and participate in your lesson as directed by your instructor. This code is a set of rules that help you stay safe on the slopes and follow the guidelines of the mountain.
The rules of the skier responsibility code cover the basics, such as remaining in control, staying on the correct side of the trail, and sharing the slope with others. They also include the use of proper equipment, and how to observe all posted signs and information on the mountain.
Once you’ve mastered the basics of skiing or snowboarding, your instructor will introduce you to freeride terrain and advanced techniques. This will allow you to ski or ride with confidence, so you can enjoy the thrill of cruising down steep slopes and exploring unique features.
If you’re interested in learning to freeride, you’ll need to have a valid slope pass and equipment. You can pick up your slope pass and rental gear at the Ski & Ride Center before your lesson begins.
This will save you time and ensure you have everything you need for your lesson. After you’ve picked up your rentals, head to the lesson meeting area on snow (look for colored flags and signs near Lakeview chairlift) so you can meet the instructors about 10 minutes before your scheduled lesson starts.
